Kevin's Plan

If elected, I will be a champion for working families and small business owners.

I’m a proud working father, volunteer and Avenue homeowner. I am only candidate who lives and works in District 1. I will be here for you every day.

I’m running in District 1 because the Westside and Downtown deserve a capable, thoughtful, experienced, energetic candidate who can bring about measurable success. That starts with protecting all Westside residents, providing essential core services, engaged small business owners and sense of place and direction that preserves our past as we build, innovate and empower our neighborhoods.

I have spent 20 years in public service and believe in bringing people together to solve problems. My desire to represent District 1 is more than political; it’s personal. My pledge is to work every day to protect the voice of underrepresented residents, including Latinos, all races, young people, LGBTQ+ neighbors, working-class families, public transit users and renters.

I serve as Executive Director of Downtown Ventura Partners, a nonprofit dedicated to keeping our historic Downtown safe, clean and economically vibrant. I work daily with over 250 small business owners, property owners, residents and local law enforcement.

My experience gives me unique understanding of how City policies impact all of us. I have a proven record of helping others, protecting our environment and improving our business climate by listening to and honoring job creators, small businesses and working families.

We must find real solutions to our housing crunch, secure local water supplies, improve traffic (particularly around Stanley) and grow sustainably to meet mounting financial responsibilities. I want to continue the Avenue’s economic revitalization while preserving its character and heritage.

The transition to Districts and District Elections has been sudden. It’s critical, perhaps now more than ever, to have leaders who understand issues citywide and who treat everyone with respect, dignity and equality.

My volunteer commitments are longstanding and diverse, ranging from the Westside Community Council to the Ventura Botanical Gardens to the Chamber of Commerce to the City’s Homeless Stakeholders Group.

We have a number of issues facing our community, and I am eager to partner with and work with the full Council to tackle them.

+ We need appropriate law enforcement and firefighter staffing levels that protects our community and reduces response times to emergencies.

+ We need a comprehensive homeless strategy that provides a compassionate hand to those who avail themselves, including a year-round, well-managed navigation center.

+ We need to preserve and expand affordable housing for young people, seniors and lower-income residents.

+ We need better homeless prevention and agency collaboration, enforcement on illegal behaviors and a commitment to ensure safe, clean public spaces for everyone to enjoy.

+ We need to stand with our LGBTQ friends and neighbors.

+ We need to restore the Ventura River for public use, and support the Ventura Land Trust’s ongoing efforts to build trails, creating much-needed access to green space.

+ We need to invest in and prioritize essential City services, smooth streets and clean sidewalks.

+ We need to implement meaningful reforms to the development approval process.

+ We need to implement meaningful reform to the City’s water fee policy.

+ We need to produce a citywide General Plan that removes inconsistencies and better responds to evolving neighborhood needs and desires.

+ We need to build our economy and add good-paying jobs, through a willingness to embrace innovation and creative ideas from those wanting to bring jobs here.

+ We need to support our cultural fabric and many artists and makers, as well as tourism, as an economic generator.

+ We need to better communicate with our residents, including City materials in Spanish.
